How do I put him back in his cot without disturbing his sleep? I love sleeping with him but my husband needs space to sleep, lol. Get's tricky to twist and turn.
What do you do?
Thank you.
Suggestion:
I did the same thing…and my baby is 6 months old and still sleeping in the bed! But, I have managed to get him to do his first long stretch in the crib. The crib is in my room and right next to our bed. However, when my baby wakes up after his first stretch of sleep, I have a harder time getting him to go back to sleep unless I pull him into my bed. This has worked ok for me though cause usually that is around 5 am and that is when DH gets up for work so he doesn't have to get his sleep disturbed.
What I do is nurse him to sleep at night while I'm sitting on the bed with him on a pillow. When he is good and asleep (I can tell because when I scoop him from the pillow into my arms, his limbs are kind of limp.) I slooooowwlllyy place him into the crib. Try to keep him close to your body while you put him down until his body hits the mattress. (The lower the crib mattress is, the harder this will be). Then place your hand on his back or belly so he knows you're still there. Then slowly remove your hand. Try to make the room as dark as you can.
And he has a little blanky in his crib that he snuggles up with (I use a crocheted one with holes cause it makes me feel safer about it.)
I think it works better the more tired he is. When he's not that tired, he won't have anything to do with the crib and sometimes I'm just too exhausted to fight it. I think once he starts sleeping really long stretches it will get easier but while they're still waking alot, it is just easier to let him sleep with me half the time. Do what works for you and gets YOU the most sleep. Your husband isn't the one who has to nurse him all night!…he won't be in your bed forever, I promise!
