Suggestion:
Our daughter slept with us for the first 2 months, and when we tried to get her to sleep in her crib she just screamed and screamed and would NOT sleep! We had her sleep in her car seat for awhile because she did better there than in the crib. Then someone suggested I should try having her sleep on her stomach, as long as she was on a firm mattress with just a sheet…no thick blankets or comforters. I finally tried this, and she started sleeping 12+ hours at night!! I would get up and check on her very often, but she did fine. She's 10 months now and always sleeps on her stomach even tho she can roll, crawl, and stand, so she could sleep anyway she wants! Some babies just prefer the comfort of sleeping snuggled up against something instead of being on their backs looking up at the big world!
Your baby should be fine, especially if it's big enough to raise it's head by itself.

If he is being supervised then yes it is fine.
As long as you check on him frequently it should be fine.
My son used to nap on his stomach as a newborn as well but usually he was out in the living room in his bassinett so I could easily keep a close eye on him. As long as there's no blankets or pillows or stuffed animlas in there with him he'll be okay.
I wouldn't let the baby sleep on his stomach at night though… only when you can keep an eye on him at this point.
You can put him on his tummy for a nap as long as you're there to supervise him. My baby was the same way. I would just keep checking that he's still breathing, like putting my hand on his back every few minutes. But not at night time, only put him down on his back.
only if you will be there with him. also, have a fan going to circulate the carbon dioxide.
My son only sleeps on his tummy. It's just an easier position for them, and easier on their digestive system too.
I use an AngelCare motion sensor monitor that sounds an alarm if he stops moving for 20 seconds or more. It's never been a problem and he's nearly 6 months old now.
yeah. can he lift his head? thats even better then……naps are fine, i just wouldn't leave him in another room without supervision (but just to run to the bathroom is ok)
Like everyone here, supervised naps on the tummy are how we do it too. I read some where that you can buy a monitor that looks for movement every 20 seconds or will alert you if not, for night time tummy babies. I think it was sold at Toys R Us.
