F=focus – is Your Focus Moving You Closer to Transformation?

As a review, lets look at the FIT equation:

F + I = T

or

Focus + Implementation = Transformation.

What is focus, really? I could go to the dictionary and give you a definition, but that seems boring, so instead I am visiting visualthesaurus.com. This fun website allows you to plug in a word and then it develops a mind-map of similar words along with a few antonyms. A few of the words that appeared included, centering, focalize and direction and one big antonym was blur.

We all have focus, it is the direction of our focus that can make or break our transformation. Our first inclination is to focus on the negative, on what hasn’t worked in the past. Now I am asking you to let go of that sort of focus; the negative hurtful focus that blocks you from your dreams. Instead how about focusing, centering, moving in this direction:

* Get out of your head and into your heart. What do I mean by that? Well your mind wants you to be comfortable and changing your routine is not comfortable, yet is required for true transformation. So, thank that voice for wanting to keep you comfortable. Here is an example; when I first started my transformation, every morning my mind used to tell me to stay in bed instead of exercising. I thanked it for its opinion and then I jump into my workout clothes and just did it. Don’t worry, you will get used to challenging your mind and being uncomfortable, because you are now listening to your heart that is telling you to go for it.

* Focus on the fact, that in order to experience the transformation that is your birthright, you will need to adopt some new habits. Yes this will take effort, but it is all in the focus. Focus on how fun it will be to take tiny steps and experience big results.

* Turn the focus onto yourself by putting yourself first in all situations. One of my guidelines for last year was “I am practicing extreme self-care with ease and grace.” Our society looks down upon being selfish. However, in order live in your birthright you must put yourself first in every situation. I am not saying to quit the job, leave your family and focus only on you, that would be self-centered. Instead, ask yourself this question in every situation: “How can I take care of myself?” For example, you worked all day then you have to take Johnny to baseball practice and little Susie is hungry and you haven’t had anytime to get some physical activity. So, instead of going through the drive thru during the practice, pack something healthy, then you and Susie take a walk around the field during practice. Another example from my own life was when my son was 3 he was diagnosed with autism and required some major interventions. So during is Occupational Therapy sessions, I would go for a run. It helped relieve stress and I was able to focus on myself for 45 minutes.

Not only will you benefit but so will your family, friends and co-workers. They may not like it at times because you are changing some relationship dynamics, however, think about how your example is being seen by everyone around you. As your transformation is seen on the outside you are also transforming on the inside, and others will feel that energy shift.

* Kick worry to the curb. I am a big worrier, yet this mind game kept me out of the present moment and either in the past or in the future, 2 places where I had no control. Instead when the worry bug wakes in your mind, take out a piece of paper and make 2 columns: what I do control and what I don’t control. Then, take action on the parts you do control and let the rest go to God. In other words, take care of your side of the street because that is the only part you own.

* Finally, Focus on facing your fears. Are you afraid of success or of failure? Remember the only failure is when you decide to do nothing. Fear is only false evidence appearing real.

I will end with a quote from the Great Lethia Owens: You are bigger, more powerful and more valuable than you have ever been taught to believe. You don’t have to believe it now, I am holding this belief for your until you are ready to own it.
