Suggestion:
Well, if you're not joking, the easiest way is to remember that about 90% of that book/movie is fiction, not fact. It is based on a real family and event, but it has never been proven to be all that it has been said to be.
I recall, the actual event and not the movie/book deal, that there was no Red Room. The murders did happen, and a family ( forget their name) moved in about a year later, but that is about it. They are said to have left in a hurry, and ended up in hot water with the bills and all because of that. But, validation of the haunting, like in most cases, hasn't happened. I also don't recall it being on an Indian graveyard. In fact, it seems to have been the worst thing to happen to Amityville ever, including the murders. People have made that trek to the site and caused trouble there so much that they have even remodeled the house to deter people. Also, no one else has had any troubles there. Perhaps the ghosts were racist toward Italian-American families, but it seem a little odd to me.
Now, in all of my life, and that is a long time, I have never found one hostile ghost. I have been in a lot of haunted houses, both publicly and privately "haunted," and have yet to be assaulted or attacked in any form by anything other than my own mind (just like you are being done now). I won't go so far as to say no ghost is evil or violent, but that I just haven't met them yet.
Try to forget the movie or book and go on with something. Your mind is often your worst enemy and if you distract him or her, you can get over your creepy feeling.
