Aside from taking antihistamines (which can tend to reduce the quality and duration of your sleep), the thing that works best for me is to take a hot shower. Supposedly, the body naturally cools a bit when you are going to sleep, so the cool down from the shower sort of gets that started, or something like that… although as far as I can tell it could just as easily be that the shower is generally relaxing.
Lay in bed on your back and consciously relax every part of your body from your toes to your head. Do this by stretching your extremities one at a time and then relaxing that extremity. Breathe slowly while doing this, deep cleansing breaths. Good luck- I hate not being able to sleep and this frequently helps me.
