“Sure would be nice if I could sleep with my wife.” This was the initial statement made by a subscriber. As I continued to read though, I realized the problem was in fact snoring rather than a possible marital rift.
Because of the noise created by his snoring turned apnea due to a substantial weight gain, he had been sleeping on the couch for a number of months.
He graduated from gaining about 19 pounds after moving into an occupation that left him sitting for most of the day to over 52 pounds. He also noticed (or rather his wife noticed) his snoring also increased.
His inquiry was whether his increase in weight led to the apnea (when breathing ceases many times throughout the slumber process) or if the snoring could have led to his weight gain.
This is a question that arises with most related health problems. Which problem causes the other? Though obesity or being overweight are major risk factors for developing snoring and sleep apnea, they can also be become the result of sleep disorders.
My client’s first obvious increase in weight added fat to his throat and neck area. That created an airway which was somewhat obstructed which resulted in snoring.
His disturbed sleep left him extremely tired. Too tired in fact to even think about trying to exercise which then led to even more weight gain.
Headaches, exhaustion and lethargy tend to accompany snoring. When energy is zapped, people also tend to eat more as a replacement.
In my client’s case, he then put on another 25-30 pounds and escalated from snoring to mild but actual sleep apnea. Though men over forty tend to be more apt to be afflicted with sleep apnea, it can happen to anybody.
Not everyone snores who has apnea though many do. A sleep study is suggested to properly diagnose if it apnea is present and to what degree.
Other things in addition to putting on weight can also increase the likelihood of snoring or the risk of sleep apnea. Alcohol, especially if imbibing excessively, is one. Many medications (especially muscle relaxers), the anatomy of one’s jaw and sleeping position can also contribute. Some people are able to relieve snoring by side sleeping.
Snoring and mild apnea can be cured. My all natural Stop Snoring program has had phenomenal success. And if you are struggling to lose weight, I also highly recommend my Weight Loss Breeze program. Both are all natural and are easy to work – especially if you are already finding that you have little energy right now.
