Twitch and Also Sudden Rush of Fear While Falling Asleep?

Last night I had trouble falling asleep then as I was just lying there with my eyes closed my arm jerked suddenly. It wasn't a little twitch.. the entire arm moved. I also made some vocalisation as well kinda like an 'ee'. Idk. Is this normal?

Some time after the twitching, out of nowhere I became aware that I was terrified. I don't think it was a dream or anything because I was still half awake. My heart was beating really fast and it was weird.. just this rush of extreme fear. I realised I was in bed so then I could calm myself down.

Both these things have happened a few times in the past, however normally I fall asleep within 5-10 minutes and usually sleep for 10 hours undisturbed.

Suggestion:

That's normal, nearly everyone experiences it at one time or another. It was a muscle reaction, kind of like a knee-jerk action, and it's in the nerves of your body. Your arms might flail, legs kick, and the sense of falling is extreme. Nobody really knows why it happens, but it does to most of us. It could be related to stress or anxiety that you are working out in your sleep, it could be muscle stress too – it usually occurs when you are dozing off – and it's often attributed to the body realizing what's happening and trying to wake up fast. Not to worry. Just take it easy after you experience it. If it wakes you, get up and drink something warm to help you relax.
