One thing that does effect sleep quite a bit is a diet that is high in fats. For some people this will be high fats ate during the day and in others it will be high fats that are ate in the hours before sleeping. What happens in this type of diet, besides it being unhealthy in the long run, is that the stomach has to digest this heavy food. At times this can cause people to have problems sleeping especially with a full stomach with this type of food.
Caffeine is another substance that effects sleep. Many people feel that caffeine doesn’t effect them that much. Most don’t realize how much better one can sleep if avoided caffeine as much as possible. This does change one’s sleeping patterns. For best results, limit caffeine intake and start following your body’s natural sleeping cycles which will help you eventually feel more rested.
A third type of food to avoid is sugar. This doesn’t mean you can never have sugar, but don’t have huge quantities during the day. It will spike your blood sugar levels which will make you feel like you have extra energy. When this is happening while you are laying in bed trying to sleep, it will keep you awake.
Start eating healthier foods that are simpler to digest like fresh fruits and vegetables. If eating the types of foods above, try to eat them earlier in the day than later at night.
